VARIABLE NAME: PREQ3 (Revised Fall 2001)

DESCRIPTOR: High School Prerequisite 3 LAB SCIENCE

DEFINITION: Three units of high school laboratory science: Two units must be taken in two different fields and selected from among biology, chemistry, or physics.  The third unit may be from the same field as one of the first two units (biology, chemistry, physics) or from any laboratory science for which biology and/or chemistry is a prerequisite.  Courses in earth science, general physical science, or introductory or general environmental science for which biology and/or chemistry is not a prerequisite will not meet this requirement.

VALUES:

1 = Met prerequisite

2 = Did not; Prerequisite waived

3 = Did not; Additional course work required

4 = Not applicable

NOTE: This is the official definition developed by Academic Affairs and approved by the Commission on Higher Education for minimum high school course requirements for admission to any college in South Carolina.  This field will be used primarily in the analysis of first-time freshmen.  It is not applicable to international students or students who completed high school with a GED.
