Faculty Availability and Distance Education Course Evaluation Summary Results
It is the policy of the University of South Carolina (ACAF 1.04 Student Evaluation of Courses), that all academic departments are required to submit mathematical summaries of course evaluation questions related to faculty availability and distance education courses to the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Analytics (OIRAA). The purpose of this online tool is to provide a snapshot of the results in relation to the school/college and University means.
Methodology
Academic departments submit their results for the two (2) following required questions related to faculty availability:
Question 7: Please indicate your satisfaction with the availability of the instructor outside the classroom by choosing one response from the scale below. (In selecting your rating, consider the instructor’s availability via established office hours, appointments, and other opportunities for face-to-face interaction as well as via telephone, e-mail, fax and other means).
Question 8: If websites, Blackboard, or other Internet resources were a part of this course, to what extent did they enhance or detract from your learning experience in this course?
Some academic departments use a five-point scale for Question 7, while others use a four-point scale. IAC converts all five-point scale results for Question 7 to a four-point scale so that the results can be analyzed and compared for use in this report.
Academic departments that offer distance education courses submit results for the five (5) following required questions related to distance education courses:
Question 9: How satisfied were you with the opportunities to interact with other students in the class?
Question 10: How satisfied were you with the opportunities to interact with the professor in this course?
Question 11: How satisfied were you with the technology support required in this course?
Question 12: How satisfied were you with the opportunities to access library resources and library support services for this course?
Question 13: How satisfied were you with the promptness of the feedback that you received in this course?
Questions 9 through 13 are asked of students in both regular and distance education courses for comparison purposes.
