Respondent Profile - PACS 2006

A total of 523 students completed PACS in 2006. The overall response rate was 30%. A basic demographic breakdown of respondents looks like this:

23% Freshmen; 23% Sophomores, 25% Juniors; 28% Seniors; 1% Non-degree seeking
64% Female; 36% Male
81% Caucasian; 7% African American; 3% Asian American; 2% Hispanic; 1% Middle Eastern; 2% American Indian; 4% Other
As a result of participating in campus activities, 87% believe that they have met people they would not have otherwise met

The Profile of the American College Student (PACS), administered by NASPA and powered by Student Voice, is a comprehensive survey program designed to provide institutions with a descriptive portrait of their students at all levels, from first year to senior year-plus. Data collected from this survey aids in describing key characteristics of students, including how they behave and what they believe. The longitudinal data collected will allow the University of South Carolina to track changes and trends in our students' demographics and make comparisons among different groups of students on our campus.
