Activities of the Assessment Advisory Committee 1995-96
- May 10 1995 - Assessment Advisory Committee chair responded to concerns in the College of
Journalism and Mass Communications over "outsiders" assessing their students.
- May 15 1995 - Interim report submitted to the Provost. Adobe Acrobat required.
- Institutional Planning and Assessment offered to design a survey of faculty and students to
determine the effectiveness of the curriculum in general education.
- July 10 1995 - Two writing workshops conducted by Institutional Planning and Assessment.
- August 8 1995 - New members of Assessment Advisory Committee announced.
- August 22 1995 - Assessment Advisory Committee report submitted to the Faculty Advisory
Committee.
- September 8 1995 - Full committee met and agreed to pilot the COMP with 100 USC seniors.
- October 16 1995 - The Incentives Sub-Committee discussed ways to promote assessment and
encourage student participation.
- October 24 1995 - General Education Sub-committee met to discuss feedback loop and handling
of the data; subject matter experts were suggested to examine the data.
- October 25 1995 - Written Communication Sub-committee developed a preliminary plan and flow chart
of the process.
- November 15 1995 - The Provost sent a letter to the State Superintendent
of Education, requesting
assistance from high school teachers in USC assessment. Adobe Acrobat required.
- November 27 1995 - The Committee on Scholastic Standards and Petitions invited the Undergraduate
Provost to attend their
meeting and answer questions about the implementation of assessment and
use of assessment results.
- November 30 1995 - Sub-committee B issued a progress report to the full committee.
- December 1 1995 - Sub-committee A on Writing Assessment submitted progress report to full
committee.
- December 1 1995 - Sub-committee B on Feedback Loop submitted progress report to the full committee.
- December 1 1995 - Sub-committee C on Dissemination submitted progress report to the full committee.
- December 1 1995 - Sub-committee D on Incentives submitted progress report to the full committee.
- December 1 1995 - Assessment Advisory Committee commended by Lynchburg College for the work
on general education assessment.
- December 13 1995 - The State Superintendent of Education
answered
the Provost's request (PDF), supporting the plan to coordinate assessment with high school teachers.
